What is the Bioclear Method?
The Bioclear Method is a system of restorative dental procedures and protocols that, when combined in practice with Bioclear tools and materials, results in predictable, esthetically pleasing, and long-lasting patient outcomes.
The Bioclear Method - and each of its related treatments - are scientifically supported by a set of core principles, known collectively as the Five Pillars
of Bioclear. These tenets not only make Bioclear a unique system but also a sound one, with dependable results.
FIRST PILLAR: BIOFILM REMOVAL
Biofilm - the glycoproteins, polysaccharides mixed with oral debris, and
other bacterial components including the protein pellicle that adhere
to teeth - can have a healthy role in the oral cavity, but when it comes
to bonding composite to our patients’ teeth, biofilm is detrimental and
tenacious, and can lead to staining or debonding. Surfaces must be
completely biofilm free for composites to stand the test of time.
SECOND PILLAR: PREPARATION DESIGN
Even with the advent of adhesive bonding, tooth fractures remain
the third leading cause of tooth loss worldwide. The key to improving
outcomes is in proper engineering of the preparation. Bioclear
restorations are compression-based. Composite is four to five
times stronger in compression than tension.
THIRD PILLAR: BIOCLEAR MATRICES
Matrices ought to be anatomical and transparent. Bioclear allows us
to create subgingival contours that build ideal contacts. Transparent
mylar allows for true bulk filling, better light curing, and a more
polished surface.
FOURTH PILLAR: HEATED INJECTION MOLDED COMPOSITE
Injection molding with a heated composite allows the composite to
spread uniformly and with better comfort and control. The result is
a seamless adaptation to the cavity preparation with few to zero
defects - a true infinity edge.
FIFTH PILLAR: FINAL “ROCKSTAR” POLISH
Critical to the final result that Bioclear is known for is the three-step
surface prep and polishing of the composite. Diamond burs are used to
remove excess composite and coarse sanding discs provide an initial
finish and shaping; rubber cup polishing with Bioclear’s pumice-based
Magic Mix; and finishing using the high shine Rockstar Polisher.
